Today In History 04 August 1886: कोलंबिया ने संविधान अंगीकार किया. 1875: बच्‍चों के लिए खूबसूरत कहानियां लिखने वाले हैन्‍स क्रिश्चियन एंडरसन का जन्‍म हुआ था. 1870: ब्रिटिश रेड क्रॉस सोसाइटी की स्थापना हुई. 1930: यूरोपीय देश बेल्जियम में बाल मजदूर कानून बनाया गया. 1845: Great Indian lawyer and social worker Pherozshah Merwanji Mehta was born.who published the first Hindi newspaper and one of the founders of Indian National Congress, was born in Bombay. 1935: Government of India Act got the Royal assent. 1894: Narayan Sitaram Phadke, famous Hindi writer, was born at Karjat. 1906: Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar, the architect of modern Himachal Pradesh and an energetic Chief Minister, was born at Chanhalag village in Sirmaur. 1914: Gandhiji reaches London and raised Indian Volunteer Corps. 1923: Nagpur University started working. 1928: Udham Singh, Indian field hockey player (Olympic-gold-1952, 56, 64), was born. 1929: Kishor Kumar Ganguly, well known singer, was born at Khandava. He is also remembered as a comic actor, director and musician. 1931: Narendra Shankar Tamhane, dependable Indian cricket wicket-keeper (1950’s), was born in Bombay. 1933: Gandhi is imprisoned for one year for breaking a restraint order 1936: Indian Government Act was approved by the king. 1937: Kashi Prasad Jayaswal, famous lawyer, philosopher, ancient researcher and eminent historian, died at Patna. 1956: “Apsara” , India’s first large scale Atomic Energy Nuclear Reactor and first in the East World, was commissioned in Trombay, Bombay. 1967: World’s longest and highest Dam ‘Nagarjun Sagar’ made by Masonary System was inaugurated. 1979: Indian Airlines AVRO-748 crashes in to a hill near Bombay. 1993: Swami Chinmayananda, master in study of Bhagwadgita, died at the age of 76 in San Diego. 1993: Tarabai Bapat, daughter-in-law of revolutionary Senapati Bapat, died. 1997: Maharashtra govt. decides against banning Arun Shourie’s book ”Worshipping False Gods” on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. 1997: Nilesh Kulkarni becomes the first Indian to take a wicket with his first ball in Test Cricket (Colombo). 1997: Supreme Court declares that the Rashtrapati Bhavan press communique of 23/1/1992 on a proposal to confer the Bharat Ratna ‘posthumously’ on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose “should be treated as cancelled”, as the proposal was dropped by the Government in deference to the sentiments expressed by the public and his family members. 2000:Justice Brij Mohan Lal was sworn in chairman of the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission. 2000: Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and the last member of the British royal family to bear the title ”Empress of India”, celebrated her 100th birthday. 2000: Pranab Mukherjee and S. Jaipal Reddy, Congress(I) leaders, get Best Parliamentarian awards for the year 1997-98.
